His many other awards for his work in musical theatre include the British Theatre Award for the Best Production of a Musical in two consecutive years: in 2001 for The Gondoliers at the Watermill and in the West End, and in 2002 for Fiddler on the Roof at the Watermill. He also won the award in 1995 for Moll Flanders (York) and was nominated for it in 2005 for Mack & Mabel , in 1999 for Cabaret (Watermill), in 1998 for Irma La Douce (Watermill) and in 1997 for Into the Woods (York). His most recent work with actor-musicians includes his own adaptation of Peter Pan , premiered at Oxford Playhouse, and his adaptation of HMS Pinafore entitled Pinafore Swing , as well as the two new pieces, Ten Cents a Dance and A Star Danced which were all commissioned by
the Watermill. Other Musical theatre work includes the national tour of Bernstein's Candide, Tom Jones (world premiere), Carmen, Beauty and the Beast, Piaf , Gypsy , Bells are Ringing , Anyone Can Whistle (European Premiere) , West Side Story, My Fair Lady, The King and I, Sweet Charity and Annie.
His work in opera includes Elixir of Love and The Tailor's Daughter for Welsh National Opera; Ice
for the City of London Sinfonia and Fast Forward Figaro for Buxton Festival. He has also regularly
directed the Salvation Army's flagship Christmas concert which in recent years has been held at
the Royal Albert Hall.
